Dr. Visvanathan is a Medical Oncologist and Cancer Epidemiologist. She is a Professor in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and School of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Cancer Genetics and Prevention Service at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.
Her research is focused on personalizing early detection, screening and preventive strategies in high-risk women with and without cancer. Some of the areas we are currently conducting studies on include DNA markers in blood and tissue (genetic, epigenetic and telomeres), immune based markers, hormones, inflammation, lifestyle factors and various medications.
She holds the following positions:
- Director of the Cancer Epidemiology Track, Department of Epidemiology
- Director of the Clinical Cancer Genetics and Prevention Service
- Member of the Cancer Prevention & Control Program and the Breast and Ovarian Program, Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center

Meet Our Project Staff
The staff are continually working to update the cohort and gather important information.
Their work involves:
- Contacting participants every 3 years for updated information
- Obtaining and abstracting pathology records for new breast and ovarian procedures and tissue when available
- Obtaining and abstracting genetic testing results
- Obtaining and abstracting information and requesting tissue on primary tumor recurrence
- Obtaining death certificates
- Coordinating and conducting studies using BOSS data and samples, and studies that require new samples
